10,000 Participants and approximately 750 Workshops
10,000: new milestone in number of participants who've attended Ray McGinnis' writing workshops.
In 1999 when Ray McGinnis began teaching his first journal writing workshop in Vancouver he didn't know where the adventure of self-employment as a writing instructor would lead. He had read much about the steep learning curve many self-employed people encounter in the first three years. Indeed, Ray got some part time contract work to supplement the income he earned through teaching his workshops the first few years. Yet, with each workshop he taught, word-of-mouth spread. Past participants returned asking for new workshops to attend.
Then Wood Lake Publishing Inc., a book publisher in Kelowna, BC, Canada, had a discussion with Ray inviting him to submit several draft chapters for a book. Writing the Sacred was accepted for publication and with it's release in April, 2005, led to more opportunities for teaching well beyond British Columbia.
From the start Ray kept a log of the dates, participants in attendance, name of host venue and town where the workshop was located. People who view Ray's website often go to his "workshop schedule" page to see where he has been and what are places he will be teaching in the months ahead. With approximately 750 workshops taught since August 1999, Ray looks forward to leading his workshops for both new audiences as well as returning to communities where he has taught before.
