Writing the Sacred finds appeal in San Antonio

Sister Alice Holden of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word first heard about Ray McGinnis when she sat down to breakfast at an annual conference of Spiritual Directors International in the spring of 2007. A woman at her breakfast table was excitedly telling her about the workshop she had attended by Ray McGinnis the day before and showed her a copy of the book she had bought by McGinnis called, Writing the Sacred.

Alice decided she had to get a copy of the book and walked over to the conference bookstore to get her copy. At the bookstore she saw Ray McGinnis across a book table and within five minutes had invited him to come to San Antonio to lead some workshops at the University of the Incarnate Word retirement residence.

From that initial invitation grew several other workshop invitations co-sponsored by the Source of Light Center located at the University Presbyterian Church in San Antonio, as well as two book readings and mini-workshops held at Viva Book Store.

Viva ordered 24 copies of the book and with five events over four days is set to sell out their order by the end of Ray McGinnis' stay in San Antonio.

The workshops have drawn participants from Lenten Study groups, poetry circles, seniors from a retirement center, and members of the Christian, Jewish and Bahai communities.

While Ray McGinnis is in Texas between February 6 to 11,2008, he will also lead a workshop at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Austin.
